Gavin Larsen was born and raised in New York City. She received her dance training from Dick Andros, Francis Patrelle, and at the School of American Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet School. Ms. Larsen danced with Pacific Northwest Ballet, Alberta Ballet, and The Suzanne Farrell Ballet before joining Oregon Ballet Theatre as a principal dancer in 2003. Over the course of her 18-year professional career, Ms. Larsen was featured or created roles in ballets by many renowned choreographers, including George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Paul Taylor, James Kudelka, Christopher Wheeldon, Julia Adam, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, Yuri Possokhov, Christopher Stowell, and Kent Stowell, among others.
Ms. Larsen retired from full-time performing in May, 2010, to focus on a career as teacher, coach, freelance performer, and writer. She continues to broaden her repertoire by seeking out unique performance opportunities in both traditional and unusual venues, while furthering the reach of classical ballet. She is currently on the faculty of the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre and has had articles on dance published in Dance Magazine, Pointe, and Dance Teacher.
